Crude Oil Now Faces a Critical Test at the $85 Handle

WTI is hugging an important level of resistance, or potentially support.

Oil rallied off the early-July low near 68, ran into the trendline drawn from the April high, and tapped 92.79 before sellers took it back. Price has since fallen about ten percent and sits just under the 84 to 86.40 band that held as support through June. $85 is the level I am marking.

Supply news has been uniformly bullish for two weeks while price fell. Iran struck a US base in Jordan, CENTCOM answered, and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium halted Black Sea loading. EIA put commercial crude down 7.2 million barrels and the strategic reserve at its lowest since 1983.

Price still trades nine dollars below where it was eight sessions ago. Positioning is repricing headlines faster than the physical market is changing. A close above 86.40 reopens 92. A rejection here puts 76 in play.

Комментарий. Еще недавно строительство Транскаспийского маршрута ассоциировалось прежде всего с железными дорогами, портами, терминалами. Сегодня становится очевидно: инфраструктура – это лишь первый этап. Следующий – создание финансовой архитектуры всего транспортного маршрута, который превращает Казахстан в мощный транзитный хаб.

💵 Любой крупный инфраструктурный проект – будь то новый терминал, паром, нефтеналивной комплекс, логистический центр или расширение портовых мощностей – требует долгосрочного финансирования. И чем активнее развивается Срединный коридор, тем выше спрос на финансовые институты, способные привлекать международный капитал и связывать проекты с глобальными источниками финансирования.

❗️Важную роль в продвижении строительства Срединного коридора начинают играть инвестиционные банки. Характерный пример – АО "Teniz Capital Investment Banking". Еще в 2024 году компания организовала размещение облигаций Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) на площадке AIX. Тогда событие многие восприняли как обычную сделку рынка капитала. Однако с высоты сегодняшнего дня становится понятно, что её значение гораздо шире. BSTDB специализируется на финансировании торговли и инфраструктурных проектов в Черноморском регионе, именно там, где проходит Срединный коридор.

🇰🇿 Тогда же Максим Занкин, Teniz Capital, высказал идею о том, чтобы Казахстану стать членом Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, которая сегодня выглядит особенно актуальной: «Есть достаточно много стран, не имеющих прямого выхода к Чёрному морю, но находящихся в орбите черноморских маршрутов, и они являются членами этого банка, например, Албания, Армения или Азербайджан. Для Казахстана, как потенциального участника BSTDB, открываются значительные возможности. В первую очередь это доступ к дополнительным источникам финансирования для реализации различных проектов в стране, что особенно важно для инфраструктурных инициатив. Членство в банке также позволит Казахстану участвовать в развитии Среднего коридора вне территории Казахстана и представлять свои интересы через BSTDB. Соответственно, банк может стать важным партнером в финансировании транспортно-логистических проектов как внутри, так и за пределами страны, что поддержит экономическое развитие и стратегическую роль Казахстана на пересечении глобальных торговых путей».

Конкуренция между международными транспортными маршрутами всё меньше зависит только от километров железных дорог или количества портовых кранов. Побеждает тот, кто способен быстрее привлекать капитал, финансировать новые проекты и масштабировать инфраструктуру. В этой связи тема членства Казахстана в BSTDB выглядит вполне последовательной.

Gallic invasions of Thrace and Anatolia; 279-261 B.C. 🇷🇸🇬🇷🇲🇰🇧🇬🇹🇷

In the year 279 B.C; war broke out between the Kingdom of Macedonia and the Celts who’d been living along the middle Danube in what’s today Serbia. This led to the famous invasion of Greece and sack of Delphi by the renown Gallic chieftains Bolgius, Acichorius, and Brennus. The latter two had initially attacked and plundered the Greco-Illyrian Paionians in what’s now North Macedonia, before joining Bolgius’ incursion into Greece. At the same time, a separate division under Cerethrius had moved east into Bulgaria, defeating the Thracian Triballi and Getae in battle before ravaging the whole of Thrace all the way to the Gallipoli Peninsula. The Gauls took control of the town of Lysimachia there, sending out raiding bands in different directions. The following year a group under Comontorius completed the conquest of Thrace and founded the city and Kingdom of Tylis there. Another group under Leonnorius compelled the Greek city of Byzantium (today’s Istanbul, Turkey) to pay an inordinate amount of tribute. Leonnorius’ brother Lutarius had remained in Gallipoli with Cerethrius, and on his own initiative seized some boats and crossed over to Anatolia to raid. The two were contacted by king Nicomedes I of Bythinia, requesting their help in defeating his brother Zipoetes in a civil war. Leonnorius then crossed over with his own forces on ships provided by Nicomedes, and the two brothers helped Nicomedes quickly defeat and kill his rival. They received a large portion of land in central Anatolia, where they proceeded to found a new state, known as Galatia.

The much diminished force left behind in Gallipoli under Cerethrius was defeated in 277 B.C; by king Antigonus II Gonatas of Macedonia, at the Battle of Lysimachia. This setback and the departure of Leonnorius and Lutarius seems to have weakened the Gallic hold on Thrace, so that Tylis lost control of all but the eastern part of the country. The Galatians on the other hand, quickly overran and terrorized Anatolia, subjecting much of the peninsula until they were heavily defeated at the Battle of the Elephants around 275 B.C; by the Seleucid king Antiochus I. Their luck improved, however, when their help was solicited by king Mithridates I Ctistes of Pontus, whose newly-founded kingdom was being ravaged by a fleet sent to the Black Sea by king Ptolemy II Philadelphus of Egypt during the Chremidonian War (267-261 B.C). The Celts attacked and defeated the Egyptians in battle, being rewarded by Mithridates with a huge portion of land east of the river Halys (now called “Kizilirmak”), thus expanding Galatia. Shortly thereafter, they even got their vengeance on Antiochus I Soter, by instigating a local Greek ruler named Eumenes I of Pergamon to revolt against Seleucid rule. Antiochus was defeated and killed by a joint Gallo-Pergamene army at the 261 B.C. Battle of Sardis. In exchange for their help, Eumenes agreed to accept vassal status for his new Kingdom of Pergamon and pay a yearly tribute. Galatia was thus firmly planted and left in a dominant position in Asia Minor.
