Elche - Barcelona
Total goals over 3
Odds: 1.68
Barcelona beats Elche already in 13 face-to-face meetings in a row. Will the impressive series of Catalans continue today? Let's analyze the performance of both teams last season and their current form.
Elche
Elche has not lost in 8 matches in a row in different tournaments. If we recall the start of last season, the team acted very confidently, it had its own specific style, but it was not possible to keep stable results at a distance. As a result, the hosts even had to fight for survival at the end, because there was a very high density in the table.
It is worth noting an important fact: Elche committed only 2 defeats in 19 home fights. For comparison, Real Madrid made the same number of defeats on Bernabeu. On the road, the situation is the opposite - Elche became the worst guest team of La Liga, having won only 1 victory in 19 rounds.
In friendly matches, Elche drew with Cordoba - 2:2, and there was also a crushing victory over Toulouse - 3:0. In the first round, the guys were able to keep a guest draw against the newcomer Deportivo. I don't see strong changes in style: again the team owns the ball, bravely attacks and does not sit in defense.
Barcelona
To begin with, let's mention that Rodri still agreed on his contract with Barcelona. This means that the Catalans have almost the most impressive line of midfield, also with the possibility of rotating the squad. Flick's transfers are absolutely understandable - he took fast Adeyemi and Gordon, who can press. The blue-garnet ones will definitely fight for trophies again in all tournaments.
Let me remind you that last season the Catalans took first place in La Liga and acted very effectively in the line of attack, including using the misfires of their main competitor in the person of Madrid Real Madrid. During the friendly matches, there was a sensational defeat against Udinese, then a crushing victory over Basel - 5:2, but in these matches Flick resorted to a strong rotation of the squad.
Unlike today's rival, Barcelona has not yet played a single match in La Liga - this will be their first round in the championship. The team looks powerful on paper, but it's important to see how beginners fit into Flick's game model.
Summation
Given the trend of face-to-face meetings, which was mentioned in the introduction, Barcelona's confident victory is, but let's not forget how reliably Elche acts in front of his native stands. The team made exactly 2 defeats last season. Yes, one of them was just from Barcelona, but still the quotes for the favorite are greatly underestimated, so I suggest considering a bet on the total more - this is a much more interesting choice.
The hosts may well upset the Spanish grand - the results show that they are not afraid to go forward, keep the ball at home and seize the initiative. And in the style of Barcelona, hardly anything has changed globally, the same Hansi Flick is at the helm, all the same high pressing, the line of attack has not weakened at all, and many players will want to prove themselves from the first rounds.
