🚨🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran has laid out six conditions that it says must be fulfilled before the Strait of Hormuz is reopened to commercial shipping, highlighting the enormous gap that remains between Tehran and Washington.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council listed the following demands:
An end to all threats and insulting rhetoric against Iran. A permanent end to what Tehran describes as the “war of aggression” against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and Yemen. The lifting of the naval blockade against Iran and the withdrawal of all U.S. naval and air forces operating around the country. Compensation and reparations for damage caused during the conflict. The removal of all sanctions imposed on Iran. The United States must “unconditionally” release all frozen Iranian assets.
The demands illustrate just how far apart the two sides remain. Several of Tehran’s conditions, particularly the withdrawal of U.S. military forces from the region, comprehensive sanctions relief, and payment of reparations, would require fundamental changes to longstanding U.S. policy.
Unless either side significantly modifies its position, the conditions make a rapid diplomatic resolution of the Strait of Hormuz crisis increasingly difficult, leaving Washington and Tehran facing a prolonged confrontation over one of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors.
