President Putin stated that he understood the motives behind Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's position on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, attributing them to economic considerations

Putin recalled that he had known Tusk during the planning and construction of the pipeline, noting that the initial plan was to lay the second gas line through Polish territory, alongside the existing Yamal-Europe pipeline.

He stated that infrastructure for this route had even been prepared, but Russia ultimately decided to build the pipeline along the Baltic seabed to minimize risks, leading to Poland losing potential transit revenue. Tusk had recently commented that those who built the pipeline should be ashamed, not those who disabled it.
