☑️Job Summary:

The senior inventory Controller and inspection officer is a critical role within the National Society, responsible for overseeing the management, tracking, and control of inventory and movable long-term assets. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all inventory-related processes, from incoming and outgoing stock movements to warehouse management and reconciliation activities. The specialist plays a key role in maintaining up-to-date records, conducting scheduled and surprise stocktaking exercises, and resolving discrepancies between physical stock counts and inventory records. Additionally, the role involves inspecting and verifying the condition of items, monitoring stock levels, and initiating procurement requisitions to ensure uninterrupted operations. The Inventory Controller and Inspection Officer must also possess excellent communication and reporting abilities to document findings, present recommendations, and ensure alignment with organizational guidelines, such as those set by the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS). By maintaining accurate records, optimizing stock levels, and safeguarding assets, this role contributes significantly to the operational efficiency and success of the organization’s supply chain and humanitarian efforts.

☑️Qualification Requirements:

Second/First degree in Materials Management/inventory management/logistics and supply chain management/Accounting/Management/ business management/business administration and 6/8 years’ relevant work experience out of which 3/4 years in senior position.

22.7 hours. 7,405 recordings. 320 speakers. Free, CC BY 4.0, on Hugging Face.

Amharic has close to no open speech data. That's the gap we're trying to close, and this is the first step rather than the finished thing.

Some honesty about what this is: it's a first batch. The audio isn't preprocessed yet. We're not going to tell you it's the best quality out there. We don't think it is. What we want is for people to actually use it and tell us where it falls short.

The next release will be different: properly preprocessed audio, a real data pipeline with testing and validation built in. This exists because 320 people in Ethiopia gave their voices to it, and because contributors reviewed each other's recordings. Thank you to all of them.

💱 NBE Announces $125 Million Foreign Exchange Auction for August 26

The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has announced a $125 million foreign exchange auction scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, as part of its regular auction programme for the first quarter of the 2026/27 fiscal year.

🏦 Key Details:

• Commercial banks can submit bids between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon • Auction results will be announced at 3:00 p.m. • Settlement will take place at the end of the same day • This will be the second of four regular $125 million FX auctions planned for the quarter • The remaining auctions are scheduled for September 9 and September 23

💵 The auction follows the NBE’s $500 million special FX auction held on August 20, which received $710.14 million in bids from 22 commercial banks.
