هذا الفريق – والذي تكون بدوره من علماء من المركز الوطني لعلوم النانو والتكنولوجيا في (بكين-Beijing)، ومن جامعة (كارولينا الشمالية-North Carolina) في (تشابل هيل- Chapel Hill)، وشركة (تكنولوجيات نيومات- ( NuMat Technologies في الولايات المتحدة، ومعهد (أولسان- Ulsan ) القومي للعلوم والتكنولوجيا ( (UNIST بـ(كوريا الجنوبية- South Korea)- قام بوصف المكونات الإلكترونية المعالجة كيميائيًا في (دورية الطبيعة للجسيمات متناهية الصغر- journal Nature Nanotechnology). قام هذا الفريق الدولي ببناء هذه الأجهزة الإلكترونية المعالجة كيميائيًا من خلال تغطية جزيئات الذهب المتناهية الصغر بأحد من أربعة أنواع من الجزيئات العضوية التي أطلق عليها إسم (الجزيئات المرتبطة-Ligands). كل واحد من هذه الجزيئات المرتبطة ينتج بدوره – في وضعه بالماء أو ببيئة رطبة – (تأثيرًا مختلفا عن الآخرين، ومرتبطًا بالشحنة- different charge-related effect). فأحدهم -على سبيل المثال- يذوب محررًا أيون موجب، وتاركًا جزيئات الذهب المتناهية الصغر محاطة بشحنة سالبة، بينما آخر يقوم بالعكس ليجعل الجزيئات المتناهية الصغر موجبة الشحنة ويتحرر أيون سالب.
