The Strait of Hormuz will not open with an Iran-Oman agreement: Tasnim
Tasnim wrote: An informed source told Tasnim: Based on intensive technical and diplomatic talks between Iran and Oman, which ultimately resulted in a final agreement in late August, the agreement between Tehran and Muscat is set to be announced soon in the presence of the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf littoral states.
🔹 This source close to the negotiating team says that this agreement is solely between Iran and Oman, and the other countries will attend the meeting only to be informed of the details of the route and transit arrangements, so that their implicit non-opposition is also made clear to the international community.
🔹 According to this informed source: In this agreement, details and specifications of the new entry and exit routes of the strait have been agreed upon between Iran and Oman. Based on this agreement, the entry route to the Persian Gulf is entirely within Iran's territorial waters, and part of the exit route from the Persian Gulf is also within Iran's territorial waters.
🔹 He added: Transit along this route will be under Iranian arrangements, and after it is implemented, the southern route, which the United States insisted on opening and which was the main cause of the new tension, will be closed.
🔹 According to this informed source: In this meeting, in addition to Iran and Oman and the other coastal countries of the Persian Gulf, Iraq will also be present. Of course, these countries will only be informed of the outcome of the Iran-Oman negotiations, and decision-making regarding the details of the agreement has been carried out in the technical meetings between Iran and Oman.
🔹 Emphasizing that "this agreement by no means means the opening of the Strait of Hormuz," he noted: Iran has announced 7 conditions to the American side through intermediaries for opening the Strait of Hormuz, and until these 7 conditions, which have been approved by the high authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, are implemented, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed. Therefore, the agreement between Iran and Oman does not mean the opening of the Strait of Hormuz; rather, it means that if the strait is to be opened, it will be opened based on this agreement, which is considered a step toward Iran exercising sovereignty over it. The opening of the strait depends entirely on the behavior of the American side in implementing Iran's conditions.
