What you’re experiencing is the psychological power of novelty, specifically a new environment. There is this fantastic series of research by the researcher David Gonzalez and his team between 2016-2022 which essentially explored the importance of novelty for our memory, neurons and, crucially, for our personality. They found that, when looking at thousands of people, those who had novel experiences, put themselves in new environments, tried new things – food, music, movies – were much happier and also had a deeper sense of personal alignment. For example, one 2017 study observed production workers who were given novel tasks once a shift, they found they had more grey matter in their brains afterwards compared to those who did not have an unfamiliar problem to solve. Grey matter is essentially for daily functioning but also memory and emotion. Basically by going out and exploring, seeing beyond ourselves and our daily lives, we are somehow able to know ourselves better. Why is that? Because we continue to make sure their brains were plastic and adaptable. Your brain was built for newness and to see the world and be challenged, taste berries, experience awe when seeing a waterfall, meet new people. When it doesn’t get that I kind of imagine it kind of turns into a zoo animal of sorts, pacing up and down, up and down, it’s cage. Get into new spaces and new environments whenever you can – different routes to work, study in a new library, watch something new at night instead of the same episode of The Office, for the 5th time in a row (guilty as charged). You will literally feel the difference in your wiring as your brain, your mind moves from stagnant, bored, to expansive and curious. Tip number 4: Have a completely unproductive goal and make it really, really random. Totally weird, totally separate from everything else you’re doing in life, a side quest if you will that will take effort and time! Some examples I had in my notebook: Read 5 biographies about artists you admire Memorise all 196 flags Go to every museum where you live before the end of the year Paint portraits for every one of your friends by the end of the year Learn how to make your own clothes Cook through an entire cookbook Befriend a crow Saying it now, I think the core element of this is whimsy and a lack of seriousness, but still a need for trying and striving. All of those goals are achievable with effort, but they also all tap into something we’ve really been discussing this whole episode: a sense of wonder and humanness that we’ve lost. What is the deeper psychological justification for this though? Essentially it’s about diversifying your personality the way people diversify investments, which I know sounds bizarre, but you can’t be defined by one thing and think that will deliver you a happy life. In our 20s particularly, there is this major emphasis on being focused, selective, choosing one path to specialise in – whether it’s choosing a major, choosing a hobby, choosing a literal career path and working it until you retire, basically concentrating your effort on one thing. That may bring results – does it make you feel alive, does it keep you connected to who you are? Let’s be honest, not always. We get that laser focus, and everything else fades away and so what happens when that thing isn’t satisfying anymore, when we want to change, when the main focus drops off? You’re left contemplating who you are and life feels, what’s the best word for this: narrow. That’s why I need you to be collecting side quests. Consider it personality insurance: if the things I typically base my personality on – work, relationships, accolades, praise, passion - fade, become exhausting or don’t inspire anymore, I’ll still know who I am because I am expressing myself elsewhere in a way that feels meaningful and real to me. Tip number 5: start any kind of journal.

Morning Alert.. *Alternative fuels zoom past petrol in share of PV sales: Fada data* For the first time in history, the penetration of petrol-powered cars was surpassed by alternative fuel vehicles in India in August. The share of alternative fuels — compressed natural gas (CNG), hybrid and electric combined — in the passenger vehicle (PV) market stood at 41.95 per cent against petrol’s 40.85 per cent, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (Fada) on Monday. Alternative fuel PV sales closed the 11.9 percentage point gap with petrol PV sales seen last August, which was narrower than the 21.03 percentage point gap seen August 2024. This comes at a time when customers are raising concerns over the E20 (20 per cent ethanol and 80 per cent petrol blended) fuel. Automobile retail sales clocked the best-ever August sales this year, at 24,23,201 units, up 18 per cent from the year-ago period, driven by record August retail numbers in PVs, two wheelers (2W), three wheelers (3W), and commercial vehicles (CVs), the data showed. “The defining development of the month, however, was a structural one: for the first time in India’s history, alternative fuels — CNG, hybrid and electric combined — overtook petrol in the PV market, at 41.95 per cent against petrol’s 40.85 per cent . A little over a year ago petrol led this contest by nearly 11 percentage points; that lead has now been erased,” said Sai Giridhar, president, Fada.

Well, Jen, a couple months ago I asked you on a show what you saw me doing today. I asked because today is Hubby's & My 35th anniversary and being that it lands on Labor Day this year, I didn't expect much with most places closed but was curious just the same. You saw straw. You didn't know if I was decorating for fall but definitely saw straw. I found that odd. Even if I were decorating for fall, I wouldn't be putting straw out because of my dogs and their likely attraction to mark it. However, I've always wanted to use straw for decoration for clam bake but I didn't see myself doing it so early, I was thinking late September, early October for this year's clam bake. I don't like doing it early September because of the possible heat and yellow jackets get in your face that time of year. Weeks after that podcast, because of going back & forth with family and ultimately our caterer, the date for clambake was set for 9/12, next Saturday. Do you want to guess what I was doing this weekend? You guessed it - fall decorating for next week's clambake! And today, I went to buy my mums for the tables. Lowes had a sale that ends tomorrow. I heard last night that Marc's also has them so went there when I was done. Marc's had straw! I've never seen straw bales for sale at Marc's! I've always wanted to have straw out for my decorations but never seemed to be able to get it in. So I brought home straw, got it all over my car and all over me! I was definitely "doing something with straw". I also bought a really cute scarecrow at county fair last night - it will go on the straw with other flowers I found at Marc's 🥰

«Спешим оговориться, что уникальная вещь - это не обязательно станковое произведение. Ведь есть же разница между скульптурой станковой и декоративной. Так же и в сфере неизобразительных форм. Не всегда даже чайник создается, чтобы чай пить. Чайник - это тема, но он может быть просто декоративным. Если же утилитарность понимать шире, видеть практическую полезность не только в том, чтобы "чай пить", то оказывается, что предмет может быть полезен в духовном отношении, в широком понимании задач эстетической организации предметно-пространственной среды. И такую "полезность" следует признать неотъемлемым свойством всякой декоративной формы, художник должен знать, для чего он делает вещь, это и есть утилитарность в широком значении слова».

Many people are familiar with Vitruvius’s famous triad of utility, firmness, and beauty. Far fewer, however, know the contents of a small Soviet collection titled On Beauty and Utility, published in 1974 and compiled from materials that had appeared Decorative Art of the USSR, a leading Soviet magazine on all things design.

Among the texts included in the volume is an essay titled “Our Criteria,” written in 1967 by the art historian and critic Kirill Makarov. By then, functionalism had ceased to be the unquestioned creed of modernism, and Makarov called for a reassessment of the criteria inherited from the late 1950s, when, as he put it, “the beauty of objects and their expediency were almost completely identified with one another.”

In the meantime, we would like to draw attention to Makarov’s discussion of the growing tendency within decorative and applied art toward the creation of unique objects - and, above all, to his concise and memorable definition of utility. In our view, it deserves to be quoted whenever the modernist maxim “form follows function” comes up:

“We should hasten to clarify that a unique object is not necessarily an easel work of art. After all, there is a difference between easel sculpture and decorative sculpture. The same applies to non-figurative forms. Even a teapot is not always created in order to drink tea from it. The teapot may simply provide a theme; it may be purely decorative. If, however, we understand utility more broadly and recognize practical usefulness not only in the ability ‘to drink tea,’ then an object may prove useful in a spiritual sense - in the broader context of esthetically organizing the material and spatial environment. Such ‘usefulness’ should be regarded as an essential quality of every decorative form. The artist must know what the object is being made for: this is utility in the broader sense of the word.”

De ontdekking van het schilderij, na decennialang zoeken, was een toeval dankzij een foto van een advertentie voor een woning in de stad Maldonado, provincie Buenos Aires. Het schilderij hing aan een van de muren van het huis, dat toebehoorde aan een Argentijnse zakenman en de dochter van een hooggeplaatste nazi-functionaris.

🔴 L'autore sostiene che i cittadini europei voterebbero quasi sempre contro l'UE se fossero direttamente consultati, motivo per cui le élite preferiscono evitare referendum sovranazionali. Il recente successo elettorale dell'AfD in Sassonia-Anhalt, che ha ottenuto quasi il 44% dei voti, è presentato come un'indicazione del dissenso della popolazione tedesca verso le politiche attuali su economia, energia e immigrazione. L'articolo avverte che la vittoria dell'AfD, percepita come una minaccia dal sistema eurofilo, scaturirà probabili manovre di delegittimazione, etichette di "estrema destra" e tentativi di escludere il partito dal potere, parallelamente a quanto avverrebbe per Marine Le Pen in Francia o Vannacci in Italia. 🎯 Che si tratti di adesione alla UE, all’euro o uscita dalla UE, nella stragrande maggioranza dei casi, l’esito è stato contro l’UE. Per questa ragione è difficile che i cittadini vengano direttamente consultati per questi “affari”. Ecco perché non esiste l’istituto del referendum a livello europeo.

🎯 Ma esistono i referendum e le consultazioni elettorali a livello statale e regionale, che molto spesso ci hanno dato e ci danno un’indicazione chiara di ciò che la gente pensa dell’UE e delle sue politiche barocche o dannose.

🎯 Queste consultazioni sono guardate sempre con timore, sfida e orrore dalle élite neoliberiste che muovono i fili della UE, perché è lì che sovente si sfoga il dissenso contro il mostro burocratico, contro le sue politiche, il cui scopo è arricchire i tanti a danno dei pochi.

🎯 L'obiettivo della UE è il ritorno al classismo ottocentesco, dove non esistono democrazia e reale rappresentazione delle istanze di tutti. Lo vediamo ogni giorno. Il prezzo del carburante sale, ma nessuno fa nulla per fermarlo. Tutti blaterano, ma nella sostanza fanno spallucce: arrangiatevi, soffrite e pagate.

🎯 Perciò, quando a livello “nazionale” o “locale” un partito o un profilo politico, fortemente critico contro l’UE e le sue politiche, rischia di vincere, scoppia l’isteria. Già molto prima iniziano le manovre di delegittimazione.

🎯 I media asserviti e le forze politiche eurofile tirano fuori tutto la retorica “antifascista” e le etichette dispregiative, il cui scopo non è descrivere, ma delegittimare e creare una realtà che offra al cittadino un quadro fosco e pericoloso di quella forza politica o di quel personaggio, qualora salisse al potere.

🎯 Usano la retorica e i fantasmi del passato (nazifascismo) per rafforzare la loro delegittimazione ed eventualmente le misure legali da adottare per fermarli. In fin dei conti, è risaputo: chi non riesce a vincere, sovente porta via il pallone.

🎯 Ebbene, oggi o domani, quasi di sicuro sarà il turno del partito tedesco definito di “estrema destra”, AfD, che giusto ieri ha vinto le elezioni in Sassonia-Anhalt, raggiungendo quasi il 44% dei consensi.

1️⃣ Техническая картина По BTC держимся около $79,000. ETH подтянулся к ~$2,500.

🔽 Ключевая поддержка: $76,000-77,000, глубже – $70,000, где находится средняя цена покупки краткосрочников, пока держимся выше – они в прибыли и не давят продажами.

🔼 Ключевое сопротивление: $81,000-86,000

Там совпали сразу три вещи: себестоимость покупок ETF, крупное скопление монет, купленных в этом диапазоне, и плотная зона шортовых ликвидаций, так что пробить эту зону будет непросто.

2️⃣ Медвежка закончена? Все лето мы держались на одной надежде, так как на крипту просто не было покупателей. В августе они наконец появились.

3️⃣ Сентябрьское заседание ФРС 15-16 сентября – заседание, к которому сейчас сводится все, и до конца не понятно, к чему готовиться, так как данные по рынку труда указывают на повышение ставки.

Поэтому смотрим на ключевые данные этой недели: ➢ Чт, 10 сентября – PPI, инфляция производителей, заявки по безработице ➢ Пт, 11 сентября – CPI за август. Главная цифра недели

Сам ФРС с 5 до 17 сентября в режиме тишины. Подсказок не будет, рынок двигают только цифры – и уже к концу недели станет понятно, какое решение более вероятно.

4️⃣ Чего ждет моя команда?

⏺ Нейтральный – диапазон $70-86K. Наиболее вероятный вариант. ETF продолжают покупать, но темп снижается, откат будет к $70-75K.

⏺ Позитивный – закрепление выше $86K. Именно недельное закрытие, а не прокол, потому что там сидит себестоимость ETF, самого жирного кластера. В этом случае есть шансы и до сотки дойти.

⏺ Негативный – потеря $70K. Уходим ниже себестоимости краткосрочников, ETF разворачиваются в отток, возвращаемся к значениям начала августа.

⏺ Главный вывод: Рынок впервые за долгое время выглядит не просто живым, но и понятным. До пятницы базовым остается нейтральный сценарий – после такого резкого роста рынку нужно немного сбалансироваться. А вот если ставку все же повысят, риск ухода ниже также повышается. Поэтому внимательно следим, всем хорошей недели!
