Major Wilhelm-Ernst, Baron von Cramm! September 30, 1917, Brüggen/Alfeld - May 29, 1996, Oelber a.w. Wege/Nds He served in the 13th Cavalry Regiment from 1936, became a lieutenant and took part in the "Flower Wars". With the mobilization in August 1939, the 13th Cavalry Regiment was disbanded and became the 158th Reconnaissance Division, 58th Infantry Division. As part of the 34th Infantry Division, AA 158 began the advance through Belgium, later returned to the 58th Infantry Division and fought its way through France. During "Barbarossa" the division went via Riga and Narva to Leningrad, where it was used in the siege. When the Demyansk pocket was cleared (February 1943), AA 158 formed the rear guard of the division, then took up positions on Lake Ilmen. From November 1943, it was renamed Divisional Fusilier Battalion 58, and its commander was Wilhelm von Cramm, who had since been promoted to captain. At the beginning of 1944, he became a major and was deployed with the battalion at Putki, on the Narva front. On March 2, 1944, Russian troops launched a local attack, and the battalion was sent to meet them. Despite being outflanked, they established themselves in Putki, tying up further Russian forces until they were relieved five days later, on March 7, by Grenadier Regiments 2 and 11. The battalion later fought in and around Riga and Memel, and from January 1945 became part of the army group reserve near Königsberg. In the battles for East Prussia it was finally lost in Samland, but the remnants managed to make it to Hela. I can't find anything about his imprisonment; after the war he inherited the Harbarnsen manor from his mother, revived the grain distillery there and devoted himself to equestrian sports. In later years he was a politician in the German Party (DP).
