Hirntod und Organspende  Die Frage, wann der menschliche Tod tatsächlich eingetreten ist, stellt nicht nur eine medizinische Herausforderung dar, sondern auch ein ethisches Dilemma, das tief in den Bereichen des Bewusstseins und des menschlichen Körpers verankert ist.    Eine besonders grundlegende Frage stellt sich dabei bereits vor der eigentlichen Diagnostik: Was genau soll mit dem Begriff „Tod“ bezeichnet werden? Der Rechtswissenschaftler Rainer Beckmann zeigt in seiner 2025 erschienenen, 923 Seiten umfassenden Untersuchung „Das „Hirntod“-Konzept und der Tod des Menschen“, dass zwischen dem Tod des Menschen, der Definition des Todes, dem Todeszeichen und dem Verfahren zur Todesfeststellung unterschieden werden muss. Diese Unterscheidung ist entscheidend: Der Nachweis eines irreversiblen Ausfalls von Hirnfunktionen ist zunächst eine Aussage über den Funktionszustand des Gehirns. Daraus folgt nicht automatisch, dass damit auch der Tod des gesamten Menschen bewiesen ist.   Wo findet menschliches Bewusstsein statt?  Das menschliche Bewusstsein ist ein äußerst komplexes Phänomen, das nicht nur auf eine bestimmte Region des Gehirns zurückzuführen ist.

Die Großhirnrinde, insbesondere die präfrontale Kortexregion, spielt eine wichtige Rolle in höheren kognitiven Funktionen wie Entscheidungsfindung, Selbstbewusstsein und komplexem Denken. Allerdings ist Bewusstsein nicht auf einen isolierten Bereich des Gehirns beschränkt, sondern das Ergebnis eines Zusammenspiels vieler Hirnregionen und -netzwerke, die über das Gehirn verteilt sind.   Neurowissenschaftler verstehen das Bewusstsein als das Produkt von Aktivitäten, die in verschiedenen Teilen des Gehirns koordiniert sind, einschließlich des Thalamus, des präfrontalen Kortex und anderer Assoziationsbereiche. Diese Netzwerke arbeiten zusammen, um Erfahrungen zu integrieren und eine kohärente Wahrnehmung der Welt und des Selbst zu erzeugen.   Kurz gesagt: Die 2-4 mm der Hirnrinde sind in der Tat wichtig, aber das Bewusstsein ist ein komplexes, dynamisches Phänomen, das weitaus mehr als nur diese dünne Schicht der Hirnrinde umfasst.    Das EEG als Grundlage für die Diagnose Hirntod, eine fragwürdige Methode Ein zentrales Instrument in der Hirntoddiagnose ist das Elektroenzephalogramm (EEG), das elektrische Aktivität in der Großhirnrinde misst. Allerdings weist das EEG wesentliche Limitationen auf:   Das Elektroenzephalogramm (EEG) misst elektrische Aktivitäten des Gehirns durch Elektroden, die auf der Kopfhaut angebracht werden. Diese Methode ist insbesondere für die Erfassung von neuronalen Aktivitäten in den sechs Schichten der Hirnrinde (Cortex) geeignet. Die gemessenen Signale stammen hauptsächlich aus den obersten 2–5 mm des Gehirns, da die elektroenzephalographischen Spannungen durch den Schädel und andere Gewebe gedämpft werden. Dadurch ist das EEG relativ unempfindlich gegenüber Aktivitäten tieferer Hirnregionen wie dem Thalamus, den Basalganglien oder dem Hirnstamm. Die Aktivität subkortikaler Strukturen wird durch Schädelknochen und Gewebe gedämpft und ist für das EEG nicht messbar.   Der Hirnstamm, der lebenswichtige Funktionen wie Atmung, Kreislaufregulation und das Wachheitsniveau steuert, bleibt für das EEG unzugänglich.    EEG und seine Grenzen: Kritiker weisen darauf hin, dass rudimentäre EEG-Aktivitäten von weniger als 2 mV nicht unbedingt die Funktion des Kortex widerspiegeln und dass diese Signale oft durch Artefakte oder minimale zelluläre Aktivitäten verursacht werden können.

Dies stellt die eindeutige Interpretation eines „Null-Linien-EEGs“ in Frage, das ein wichtiges diagnostisches Kriterium für Hirntod ist. In den letzten zwei Jahren haben wir in mehreren Ländern ein Muster beobachtet: Telegram wird still und leise unter Druck gesetzt, politische Gefälligkeiten zu erbringen – wie beispielsweise illegale Zensur oder Überwachung. Wenn wir ablehnen, starten lokale Medien und sogenannte "nichtstaatliche" Organisationen koordinierte Kampagnen, die Telegram als Brutstätte für Verbrechen darstellen, von Kinderpornografie bis hin zu Terrorismus.

Unsere Moderation ist nicht schlechter als die anderer großer Plattformen. Dennoch vermitteln diese Kampagnen den Eindruck, dass Telegram verfolgt oder eingeschränkt werden sollte.

Plötzlich beginnen Beamte, sich plötzlich für Verbrechen zu interessieren und Kinder zu schützen – aber nur auf Plattformen, die ihre geheimen politischen Forderungen ablehnen. Plattformen, die solche Vereinbarungen akzeptieren, können fast alles tun – einschließlich des offenen Verkaufs von Anzeigen, die Kinderpornografie bewerben.

Ist die französische Untersuchung gegen mich politisch motiviert? Sie entspricht sicherlich dem Muster, das wir anderswo sehen, vor allem in autoritären Ländern. Und sie wirft definitiv Fragen auf.

🚨 Two years ago, I was detained in Paris by police for 3 days — the longest they can hold someone before charging them.

In an unprecedented move, French authorities accused the head of a major platform of crimes committed by its users.

That investigation is still ongoing, although it makes less sense with each passing year.

Why?

Because we now have extensive evidence that Telegram was neither worse than other popular platforms at moderation, nor the worst at cooperating with authorities.

So why was Telegram singled out?

Over the last two years, we have seen a pattern emerge in multiple countries: Telegram is quietly pressured to grant political favors — such as illegal censorship or surveillance. When we refuse, local media and “non-governmental” organizations launch orchestrated campaigns portraying Telegram as a cesspool of crime, from child pornography to terrorism.

Our moderation is no worse than that of other major platforms. Yet these campaigns instill the idea that Telegram should be persecuted or restricted.

Suddenly, officials start caring about crime and protecting children — but only on platforms that reject their secret political demands. Platforms that accept such deals get away with almost anything — including literally selling ads promoting child pornography.

Is the French investigation against me political? It certainly fits the pattern we see elsewhere, mostly in authoritarian countries. And it definitely raises questions.

In time, this investigation may itself be investigated — especially now that Macron’s war against free speech is facing pushback. This month, France’s Constitutional Council struck down his social media ban for children under 15 on freedom-of-expression grounds.

In the end, freedom and truth will prevail ✊
