How we read the measurements

  1. Every day we take the radar’s Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal tests for the last 90 days, per country and per day. Tests where the probe itself failed are dropped.
  2. A country gets a verdict from the last 7 days, and only with at least 30 tests. 60% or more anomalous tests is blocked, 30% or more is partly blocked. Below that is background noise — even open networks show 5–15%.
  3. To avoid flapping, a country moves down a level only once the share falls 10 points below the threshold.
  4. “Since” is the start of the current run of blocked months or days. A single clean month in a long block is ignored: it usually means a shutdown where only VPN users could run tests.

Questions

How does the radar work?

Every day the radar tests Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal from ordinary home and mobile connections in each country, connecting the same way the apps do, and compares the results with an open network.

What does “signs of blocking” mean?

A test shows signs of blocking when the messenger’s servers or web version do not respond the way they do on an open network: connections time out, get reset or are refused. One failed test can be a flaky network; hundreds a day across many providers are a block.

Why is my country shown as not enough data?

We only give a verdict when at least 30 tests ran in the last 7 days. Below that a single device on a bad connection could swing the number from 0 to 100%.

Telegram works for me, but the map says blocked. Why?

You are probably already on a proxy or VPN, or on one of the providers that does not filter. Open the country details to see the per-provider breakdown.
