Channels and groups work differently

In a channel, only admins post and subscribers read. In a group, members talk to each other; groups can hold up to 200,000 members. Many Ethiopian channels attach a discussion group for comments, which is often the most reliable way to find an active community on a subject you already follow. Find groups through channels you trust

University, faith and professional channels often announce their own study, prayer or alumni groups. Following those announcements is safer than joining a link posted by a stranger. For job and exam topics, prefer groups announced by the channel you already read over “link lists” that change every day.

What other members can see

In a group, other members can see your name, username and profile photo, and can message you directly. Check Settings → Privacy and Security before joining large public groups: you can hide your phone number and limit who can add you to groups or message you.

Avoid unsafe group links

Searches for Ethiopian group links are often hijacked by adult, betting and “earn money” promotions. A link’s visible text can differ from where it leads. Do not join groups that ask you to share your phone number, pay to enter or move to a private chat for a job, loan or prize.

When a group is worth staying in

A useful group has active moderation, clear rules pinned at the top and discussions that match its title. If spam stays up for hours or admins never answer, leave. You can mute a group without leaving if you only want to read occasionally.
