Telegram proxy link does not open
A proxy link only wraps three values: server, port and secret. When the link fails to reach the app, you can always add those values yourself. First work out which part failed: the browser, the phone or computer, or Telegram.

What it usually means
- tg:// links only work where the phone or computer knows which app handles them. Browsers inside other apps often ignore them.
- t.me/proxy links are ordinary web addresses. If the Telegram app is not set to open t.me links, the browser shows a web page instead.
- The link opened Telegram Web, which has no proxy settings at all.
- The link was damaged when it was shared: a parameter is missing, a line break split it or punctuation stuck to the end.
Check it step by step
- Open the link on the device where the Telegram app is installed, in a normal browser.
Links tapped inside other messengers often open in their own built-in browser, which cannot pass tg:// links on to Telegram.
- If you have a tg://proxy link, try the t.me/proxy form, or the other way round.
Both carry the same values: tg://proxy?server=…&port=…&secret=… and https://t.me/proxy?server=…&port=…&secret=…. Only the start differs.
- Send the link to yourself in Saved Messages and tap it there.
Links tapped inside Telegram open the proxy window directly, without any browser in between.
- Copy the link and use Add proxy from clipboard in Telegram Desktop, or Paste From Clipboard in the iPhone proxy screen.
If Telegram Desktop answers “This is not a proxy link.”, what you copied is broken or is not a proxy link: see the proxy link is invalid.
- If nothing works, type the values by hand under Add Proxy.

Questions
What is the difference between tg://proxy and t.me/proxy links?
They carry the same parameters. tg:// is an app address that works only if the device passes it to Telegram. t.me is a web address that falls back to a web page with an open-in-app button.
Can I open a proxy link in Telegram Web?
No. The web versions of Telegram have no proxy settings. Use the Telegram app on Android, iPhone, Windows, macOS or Linux. More in Telegram Web and proxies.
Is it safe to tap a proxy link?
The proxy window shows the server before you connect. Connecting, or pressing Check Status, shows your IP address to the proxy owner. Be careful with proxy links hidden behind other text or buttons.
