Telegram proxy not working on iPhone
Telegram for iPhone shows “Connecting to Proxy...” with “tap here for settings” at the top of the chat list when it cannot reach the proxy. The proxy list lives under Settings → Data and Storage → Proxy, where each saved server shows its status.
What you see
| Where | On screen |
|---|---|
| Top of the chat list | “Connecting to Proxy...” with “tap here for settings” |
| Proxy list | “checking...”, “… ms ping”, “unavailable”, “connecting”, “connected”, “not tested” |
| Tooltip | “The proxy may be unavailable. Try selecting another one.” |
| Adding a proxy | “Failed to connect” |
What it usually means
- The server is down or blocked on your network.
- Telegram is not allowed to use mobile data in iOS settings, so it only connects on Wi-Fi.
- A VPN profile or an iOS system proxy interferes with the connection.
- The link opened in Safari and never reached the app.
Check it step by step
- Tap “tap here for settings” under Connecting to Proxy....
It opens the proxy list. Select another saved server with a ping, or add one from the list below.
- Turn Use Proxy off for a moment.
If Telegram connects directly, you do not need the proxy on this network.
- Check iOS Settings → Telegram → Mobile Data (Cellular Data).
If it is off, Telegram cannot connect on mobile data at all, with or without a proxy.
- Turn off VPN profiles in iOS Settings while you test.
Two tunnels at once often break both: proxy and VPN together.
- Keep two or three working servers saved.
Switching in the list is quicker than finding a new link every time a server dies.
Try a server that passed our last check
These servers passed a full MTProto handshake from our checker. List built 18 October 2026 at 15:51 UTC; it is rebuilt every 20 minutes. A server that works for our checker can still be blocked on your network.
Questions
Where is the proxy setting in Telegram for iPhone?
Settings → Data and Storage → Proxy. Step-by-step setup: Telegram for iPhone.
Does Telegram for iPhone switch proxies on its own?
The iPhone app has no Auto-switch proxies option like the one in Telegram for Android and Telegram Desktop. Keep a few working servers saved and switch by hand.
Why does Safari not open the proxy link?
Allow the prompt to open Telegram. If it never appears, paste the link into Saved Messages and tap it there, or add the server by hand: proxy link does not open.
