Telegram proxy says “Unavailable”
Telegram tests each saved proxy and writes the result next to it. “Unavailable” means the test got no working answer from that server, from your device, right now. It does not say why, so the checks below separate a dead server from a network that blocks it.
What you see
| Where | On screen |
|---|---|
| Telegram for Android | “Unavailable” |
| Telegram for iPhone | “unavailable” |
| Telegram Desktop, saved proxies | “not available” |
| Telegram Desktop, opening a link | “Not Available” |
| Telegram for iPhone, tooltip | “The proxy may be unavailable. Try selecting another one.” |
What it usually means
- The server is switched off or has moved. Free proxies often live for days, not months.
- Your network blocks the server address or its port. The same proxy can pass our checker and still be blocked for you.
- The port or secret was saved with a mistake, so the server ignores the app.
- The server is overloaded and drops new connections. This one comes and goes.
Check it step by step
- Look at the other saved proxies in the same list.
If every proxy is Unavailable, the cause is probably your network or a VPN app, not the servers: go to step 4. If only one is, that server is the problem.
- Add one fresh server from the list below and let Telegram test it.
If the new server shows a ping, delete the dead one. Servers in our list passed a full MTProto handshake at the time shown.
- Open the proxy details and compare server, port and secret with the original link.
One wrong digit in the port or a shortened secret is enough to fail the test. The proxy link checker splits a link into its parts so you can compare.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and look at the status again.
If the status changes, one network blocks the server. See works on one network only.
- Turn off any VPN or other proxy app and test again.
If the proxy becomes available, the two tunnels were getting in each other’s way: proxy and VPN together.
Telegram for Android and Telegram Desktop have Auto-switch proxies: when the current proxy stops working, the app moves to the nearest active saved proxy. It only helps if you have saved at least two.
Try a server that passed our last check
These servers passed a full MTProto handshake from our checker. List built 18 October 2026 at 14:51 UTC; it is rebuilt every 20 minutes. A server that works for our checker can still be blocked on your network.
- Our checker lists 200 working proxies right now and rebuilds the list every 20 minutes, dropping servers that keep failing. A server you saved weeks ago may be long gone from it.
- Only one in eight proxy and VPN channels with 1,000+ subscribers had posted in the 30 days before our 13 August 2026 snapshot (12.5%), so proxies copied from channels are often old. Who shares proxies on Telegram.
Questions
Does “Unavailable” mean the proxy is blocked in my country?
Not necessarily. It means the test from your device failed. The server could be down for everyone. Try it on another network: if it works there, your current network blocks it.
Why does a proxy show a ping and then turn Unavailable?
Telegram tests proxies again and again. A server that answered a minute ago can be restarted, overloaded or blocked by the next test. Public servers are shared by many people.
Should I delete Unavailable proxies?
Keep a server only if it worked recently on this network. A long list of dead servers hides the one that is selected, and Auto-switch can only move to servers that answer.
Is it safe to check a proxy?
Check Status connects your device to the proxy server, so its owner sees your IP address. Telegram warns about this before the check. Test only proxies from sources you trust.
